I adored both characters in this book but Sebastian really captured my heart. I actually also really loved learning more about the Mormon religion, lifestyle and culture in this book which I wasn’t expecting.Ĭhristina Lauren do a great job presenting it from both sides – what it offers (and what Sebastian loves about it) and what it denies – acceptance of their relationship. His parents support was truly unconditional and I loved how their relationship was depicted. I loved how Tanner’s mother was literally a walking bumper sticker for her son. It should not be conditional.Īnd yet we see in both Sebastian and Tanner how those who claim to love us can either do so with conditions or without.

The meaning of love between family members, between parents and child, between God and creation, between church and congregation. This book really looks at the meaning of love. But so much more stood out to me about this book. Sure, it’s a book about two teens coming to find their soulmates in a high school English class. It’s a poignant story about identity that was both heart-wrenching and beautiful at the same time.Ĭhristina Lauren has been a favorite author of mine for awhile but they showed me a different side of their work in this young adult romance. It is so much more than a romance book too.
