The British first edition preceded its American counterpart, which was published in September 1944. The dustwrapper states 'First Popular Edition - fourth impression'. The book was first published in March 1944, and was very successful for a book on economics, being reprinted three times in 1944, the third of these being this first 'Popular' Edition. A fourth iimpression of the true first edition, published in October 1944 to war economy standards.
